Ruskeala is a picturesque canyon with clear turquoise water, steep cliffs and a system of mysterious caves and tunnels.

Imagine a place where the harsh northern nature met with the genius of man and created a landscape of unearthly beauty. This is Ruskeala, an amazing marble canyon.

Once upon a time, work was in full swing here: more than two hundred years ago, by decree of Catherine II herself, marble was mined from these rocks for the ceremonial St. Petersburg. Imagine: it is with this stone that St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Marble Palace and the floors of the Kazan Cathedral are lined. And then the quarry went under water, and a miracle lake with turquoise water surrounded by snow—white rocks appeared.

Today, Ruskeala Mountain Park is a place of power and the main point of attraction for everyone who is looking for a real experience. You walk along the path along the sheer walls, and the view of the emerald expanse below is breathtaking. The water here is so clear that visibility reaches 15-18 meters, and old trolleys loaded with marble are still resting on the bottom.

Very close by, three kilometers away, the cascades of the Ruskeala waterfalls of Akhvenkoski are noisy. Wooden bridges, suspension trails, and the power of water crashing against rocks.

Ruskeala is beautiful at any time of the year. In summer, the rocks are reflected in turquoise, in autumn the gold of the forest is framed by white marble, and in winter the canyon turns into an ice palace with hundreds of icicles, and fabulous lighting is lit on the ice.
